Playing pro tennis needs perfection of everything to get to the most prestigious levels. Even if you are a greenhorn of this sport, you should be able to get the right playing techniques to be perfect. Accuracy and precision is needed when you play tennis. One of the best ways to achieve these is the appropriate grip applied to the tennis racket.
You will not be able to get an excellent grip on your tennis racket if it is not actually your size. This is just one of the things you need to look at before buying your tennis racket. Because if you use an inappropriate grip size, it will cause you some hand, wrist or elbow injuries in the long run. In women, the common grip sizes fall between 4 1/8" and 4 3/8" and between 4 3/8" and 4 5/8" in men. Junior sizes usually are ranging from 3" to 4".
To know your grip size, place your fingers together and measure from the tip of the ring finger down to the middle lateral crease in your palm. This is the way to measure your grip size numerically by the use of a ruler. However, there is another way to do it. All you need is a tennis racket at hand to help you. Place your palm of your dominant hand at the same level as the string face, therefore holding the racket in an eastern forehand grip.
Fit the index finger of your non dominant hand in the space between your ring finger and palm. Your index finger should have enough room on the space or it would indicate that the grip is too small. Or, if there is more space between your palm and your finger then it implies that the grip is too big. To avoid from getting any fracture or injury, you should be able to get your right grip size.
